Instructions for Changing Your Dial-up Username

Windows 95/98 | Windows ME | Windows 2000 & XP


Windows 95/98

  1. Double click the "My Computer" icon usually located in the upper left hand corner of the Windows desktop.
  2. Double click on "Dialup Networking" to open the Dialup Networking window.

  3. Using the LEFT mouse button, double click on your Internet connection icon (The connection name may vary). A new window will appear.

  4. Look closely at the username. It should look like an email address. To change the domain, delete the characters after the ‘@’ and replace it with ‘powerc.net’. Example: if your username is johndoe, it should be entered as johndoe@powerc.net in the User Name field.
  5. Verify that the password is typed in (You should see X’s or *'s if the password is typed in)
  6. Click “Connect” to log onto the Internet.

Windows ME

  1. Click on the “Start” button. Select Settings and then select Dialup Networking.
  2. Double click on "Dialup Networking"
  3. Double click on your connection icon (this connection icon may be named “Epowerc,” “Powerc,” or “My Connection.”).
  4. Once the ‘Connect To’ window appears, look closely at the username. It should look like an email address. To change the domain, delete the characters after the ‘@’ and replace it with ‘powerc.net’. Example: if your username is johndoe, it should be entered as johndoe@powerc.net in the User Name field.
  5. Verify that the password is typed in. (You should see X’s or *'s if the password is typed in)
  6. Click “Connect” to log onto the Internet.

Windows 2000 & XP

  1. Select ->Settings->Control Panel a new window will appear...
  2. Click on the icon for Network and Dialup Connections. You may have to scroll down to find it. The contents of the Control Panel are listed alphabetically by default. Once you click on the icon, a new window will appear. (This connection icon may be named “Epowerc,” “Powerc,” or “My Connection.”).
  3. Using your left mouse button, select “Connect” on the dropdown menu. A new window will appear.
  4. Look closely at the username. It should look like an email address. To change the domain, delete the characters after the ‘@’ and replace it with ‘powerc.net’. Example: if your username is johndoe, it should be entered as johndoe@powerc.net in the User Name field.
  5. Click on "Dial."
  6. If Windows asks "Make the phone number change permanent?” select “Yes.”
  7. You should be able to connect with the new settings.
